The spine as one synchronized functional unit. "

Hello, my Dear Clients, Patients :)

In the following article I would like to bring you closer to the issue of "the body as one functional unit."

Today we will take a closer look at the ubiquitous Bending of the head, when you read, sit and check what's new on the phone, or even sleep on a pillow that is too large, or hang around with beautiful, but heavy chains and ornaments, or you pulled out a beautiful winter jacket with a large hood ... we can multiply and add more examples to this list unfavorable to our body.

From the perspective of our body, the effect of the above situation is not only muscle tension in the neck, shoulders and upper back area, but also stretching of the meninges that surround our spinal cord in the spinal canal, but also possible vertebrae displacement in the direction that the body has difficulty in remedying such a situation. When the head / body flexion is maintained for a long time (static work, sleeping with the head bent), as a consequence, the meninges may stick together at the exit from the skull to the spinal canal. This situation can be manifested by limitation of mobility at various levels of the spine / body, headache and a difficult process of maintaining homeostasis by the body.

Now for the concrete !! 3 cm - this is the difference in the length of the cervical spine during flexion and extension !!! Measurement from the horizontal line of the foramen magnum to the base of the 7th cervical vertebra (C7).

This means that when the head is bent, we stretch our spinal cord together with the meninges UP TO 3 CM !!!

[Measurements from the book "Adverse Mechanical Tension on the Central Nervous System" by Dr. Alf Breig].

Dr. Alf Breig is the guy who presented the results of his research on patients suffering from Cervical MYELOPATHY, Cervical Nerve PATHOLOGY, POTRAUMATIC MYELOPATHY, CHEST MYELOPATHY AND MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. In these serious diseases of the nervous system, he had remarkable effects in restoring sensation, urinary incontinence, motor functions, BY PUTTING THE SPINE IN A LIGHT EXTENSION and thus obtaining a RELAXATION OF THE CORE.

The downside of this solution was the permanent loss of cervical flexion because it was permanent surgical positioning in extension.

We can confirm that the skeleton functions as one functional unit by performing a simple experiment. Make movements with distant parts of the body and observe simultaneous changes in symptoms of another part of the body. Stand on the book (only with your TOES) and take a deep breath and breathe out, watch what happens ... are you flying backwards ?? In order not to lose your balance, your head has to move forward. Here it would be nice to expand the topic with shoes (in particular, the insoles in shoes that do not support the body and disturb the upright posture), but in order not to get you tired, but encourage you, I will leave it for another article !!

Cheers! and recommend checking the workstations (desk), the height of the laptop screen, the height of the pillows (whether the head is in a neutral position) and the sofas, etc. Just in the matter of feeling your own body:)
